Update: Soon to buy my first printer

This is an update to my previous post. It’s not a valuable read if you haven’t read that one or just aren’t interested in my personal choices.

A big Thank You to all of You who replied to me. I did settle on the Prusa MINI+.

You recommended many other models. Many people seem to have shared what they had if they knew it worked fine, which is understandable, as we don’t typically have dozens of different ones to compare first-hand. Ender series was especially common among these, though came with warnings it might be prone to requiring manual repairs. You also reaffirmed me that Prusa is a safe choice.

From what I understand, the MINI+ isn’t the cheapest available and it lacks some features, such as multicolor printing or resuming job after blackout, but it is the printer to last. If I were to buy a second cheap printer, I would probably go for Ender 3 and prepare to tinker with it. If I had the budget to buy a professional one, I’d probably get Prusa MK3 or MK4.

By the way I’m buying the kit version. Hopefully I’ll learn more by assembling it. It can’t be much more difficult than IKEA furniture, right?

Happy to read this. I also just ordered my first 3d printer (gift for my son) and settled on the Mini+ too because I want to have easy great results, not buying it to tinker.

Redderthanmisty,

Ive heard good things about prusa. My first printer was an Ender 3 pro, and my god, I spent more time maintaining, fixing, and recalibrating it than it ever spent actually printing stuff.

rambos,

You are not missing features IMO, multicolor is still quite rare, its deffo not recommended for beginners and personally Im avoiding it because printing is already super slow.

Your limits are most likely max hotend temp and flow, also not having enclosure which is kinda necessary for some filaments. Stick with PLA until you are satisfied with quality

Have fun mate and good luck!

blakcod,

It’s a great feeling once you start your first print after assembly. You get that moment of wow I built something that is making something that could be used to make something else.

I have a MK3S+ and it’s great! I bought an MMUS2 but haven’t assembled it. Still playing around with a single colour or doing the swap mid print.

Bluetreefrog,

Nice. I’m super happy with my mini
