TL,DR: Putin doesn’t understand the difference between “discrimination” and “consequences”. He’s mad that people are treating his government negatively because he invaded Ukraine, so by quitting the Convention, he’s giving himself even more permission to be a brutal, authoritarian asshole.

“if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail”

Likely traditional. In this form, perhaps from Abraham Maslow, The Psychology of Science, 1966, page 15 and his earlier book Abraham H. Maslow (1962), Toward a Psychology of Being:

I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.

You know what? Do it. Announce a time and a place and then do it. Would be interesting to see if your nukes still worked or not. But to make sure, you might have to use them closer to the Kremlin just so we know you're serious.

It was quite popular during cold war. Both US and Commies were waving nuclear dicks left and right.

ProcurementCat,

Yeah but the US only nuked itself for understandable reasons, like to find out things about their new bomb designs or to study the effects of the explosion/radiation. When it came to just demonstrate power and wave their nuclear dick, they only wanted to bomb the moon.

Yeah, for dickwaving they bombed outside the US.

Well, almost. There’s the Bikini Island experiment.

0x815, (edited )

@mriormro

I changed the title because I assume that many people don’t know who Ms. Simonyan is, and possibly don’t know even what ‘RT’ is if they read this out of context. ‘The Moscow Times’ can do that as their readers might be familiar with these names and terms assuming they have some knowledge of Russia and, above all, they are visiting a Russia-focused medium.

When reading a community called ‘Europe’ on a general interest platform like Lemmy, however, I can reasonably assume that many people wouldn’t understand the original title. This is why I changed it.

That aside, you may think before you type, and ask questions. If you then still see a reason for your tonality, then feel free to go ahead with this style and I’ll like the block feature.

deadcream,

I think OP was upset about you using the word "slammed", not about dropping Simonyan name.

0x815,

Mayve I misunderstood (if so, I apologize). What I want to do is to add clarity if I think it’s necessary, but I don’t change the original author’s wording or something.

These issues aren’t exactly contradicting each other, though. You can be anti-immigration but still want other economies to grow and develop and be supported.

bigboismith,

If only four percent are ready to work with/befriend Africans, I’d assume “grow and develop” are just means for exploitation.

zephyreks,

You do understand that you can help someone without wanting to befriend them… Right?

Aux,

Putin has brainwashed Russians with hatred towards everyone and everything.

Not that long ago Russia had a lot of LGBT artists, like Shura, Boris Moiseyev, t.A.T.u. (which even went to Eurovision), as well as many acts from xUSSR countries like Verka Serduchka were super popular. Everyone is gone and gay propaganda is a crime.

Not that long ago the USSR was trying really hard to show the world they love Africans, loads studied (for free), lived, married, had successful carriers. Great examples are rapper N’PANS and TV presenter Elena Khanga. Khanga moved to YouTube, N’PANS went underground.

Not that long ago racism and bigotry was weird and unusual, today it’s just the way of life.

And since the start of war, everyone who was against moved out to other countries.

@CodeMonkeyUK@lemmy.world avatar

“Election”…? snort

zephyreks,

To a large extent, the concept of an “election” as a driver of people’s wills is a Western construct. In China, for example, people’s wills are directly expressed my complaining to the government. For example, we saw that the government tore down it’s COVID-19 restrictions following mass protests and that they shut down the tutoring economy following a huge number of complaints. Meanwhile, the US is notorious for claiming things during elections and turning around to deliver nothing with no system of recourse for voters.

This isn’t to say that China has a free and liberal democracy, but it is to say that a free election does not make a free democracy and that the ability to impact government policy does not require elections to be free.

Of course, none of this is relevant because Russia’s government doesn’t listen to their citizens lol.
