Why Defederating from Facebook/Meta is So Important (ploum.net)
I strongly encourage instance admins to defederate from Facebook/Threads/Meta....
![A digital speedpainting. A giant reaper with a golden chain around their neck with the logo of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and a headband with the meta logo. The giant silhouette surprise a tiny group in comparison; a warm scene of small cute characters gathered around a Fediverse glowing logo. This is the mascott of Mastodon, Pleroma, Misskey, Funkwhale, Lemmy, Peertube.
This is my feelings in reference to the discussions about Meta joining the Fediverse...

This blog post by Ploum, who was part of the original XMPP efforts long ago, describes how Google killed one great federated service, which shows why the Fediverse must not give Meta the chance
A warning and a perspective from an insider who has been through this before.
I saw this in another thread on /c/Showerthoughts. I think it's important for this to be circulated widely so that the broader Fediverse community is aligned. We don't want admins second-guessing their decisions when users start infighting. We should be united in our thinking and ready to protect our platform.
Everyone who’s into the fediverse concept should read this article.

It's really important for those of us who've lived through previous megacorp attacks on free software ecosystems to TEACH that history....
With Meta starting to actually implement ActivityPub, I think it would be a good idea to remind everyone of what they are most likely going to do.
Received this in my email what do you all think?
An article on why Meta entering the fediverse is not necessarily a good thing.
When corporate entities infiltrate decentralized networks/platforms, they do it methodically with the intent to harm the decentralized platform in order to maintain the corporate monopoly.
Sorry for reposting, but I think it is crucial to talk about this. Fediverse forward 🏁

I want to start a discussion of MIT vs GPL and see what you all think
