Doesn’t really seem spoilery to me at all. Alan Wake - and Remedy in general - is very into surreal weirdness and world fuckery. He’s mostly talking about audiences being receptive to pushing creative boundaries.
I actually just watched the first half of this movie for the first time tonight. Had to pause it to let my dog out and now go to bed. Not sure about finishing it. That’s just me.
You’re missing out. It’s a slow boil, but then it kicks into gear. Not too mention that everything else at the beginning makes sense and has callbacks. It’s such a thrilling ride!
In my opinion it is very good these days. Almost all of the major problems at launch have been resolved. There’s a ton of game modes and maps. They added firefight, forge, custom games, infection, and there are like 15 different playlist to choose from.
They’re actively working on networking improvements (three playlists use the new netcode currently, and they’re using that to test how well it works before making the whole game use it).
Cosmetics are in a much better place than at launch. There are a ton of options and a lot of things work on every armor set.
The biggest issue imo is still the battle pass system. Limited time events (like the Christmas event) replace the season pass if you don’t buy the paid version, so there isn’t much to unlock at a given time unless you pay. But, paid passes never expire, and you can go back and buy old passes, and most passes contain enough credits to buy another pass, so it’s basically a one-ti.e fee.
If you don’t like Halo, nothing has changed that will make you like it. The game plays like it did at launch in terms of gunplay and movement. But the overall experience is in a much better state than at launch
I actually love Halo. Infinite was a pretty big letdown, but I heard they brought back Firefight. Between the cosmetic situation, double xp being locked to the current season, selling challenge swaps for real money, and multiplayer not hooking me, I lost interest quick. But I need to see if they ironed out some of the issues since I haven’t played in a good while.
If you’re not up on your Dota lingo, smurfing is a phenomenon whereby seasoned players start new accounts for the purpose of being matched with newbies they can easily stomp, which sucks for the newbies and is kind of pathetic behaviour on the part of the pros. Behaviour score farming, meanwhile, just means paying for people (or bots) to give you a thumbs-up in Dota’s player behaviour rating system, the one that’s meant to keep toxic players away from, well, nice people.
Thanks, article. Also, no surprise how easy it is to game these systems. Catching these smurfs should be easy, as most will either completely forget to use a VPN, or make a slip sooner or later. The fact that these players go out of their way to effectively play with a huge handicap in their favor shows how pathetic they are, much like gankers (max level players who harass and kill lower level players) in MMOs
What if I’m already an elite tier DOTA player, but my kids or the ol lady want to play now? IP based doesn’t make sense in my opinion, but it should be clear when a smurf just utterly dominates every match that something is awry.
What a weird time in gaming, Bethesda trying to copy No Man’s Sky with Starfield and Hello Games trying to copy what Bethesda is trying to sell what The Elder Scrolls 6 is supposed to be. Considering what Hello World has already proven themselves capable off, they are definitely going to be throwing some punches.

People also spent years talking about how bad ESO is, and when I finally played it … it’s great, just like FO4.
I’ll be interested to see how/if opinions change about Starfield over time. I’ll still wait to play it because I’m a patient gamer, but I’ve come to distrust anyone’s takes about Bethesda games.
People are also forgetting that he spent the past decade creating systems and tech for NMS that he can now use in his new game. Systems and Tech he didn't have in hand when dreaming up NMS.
That’s a false dichotomy. They oversold (read: lied about) NMS, so I have no reason to trust that they won’t do so again on this one. Trust is earned, and I have no reason to take them at their word. I trust other devs that consistently deliver, such as Rockstar and Nintendo.
So I’ll believe it when I see it. But I’ll require actual proof this time instead of promises. The same goes for CDPR and Bethesda and every other studio where promises didn’t line up with what was actually delivered.
I'm sure not preordering and I will wait until plenty of detailed reviews and gameplay videos are out before I buy. As solid as NMS is right now, it was a steaming pile on release. I won't risk it again.
