@Charcoal8645@edgerunnergit Basically, the Fediverse is a universe of tech designed to talk and interact with each other. For example, I can interact with you even though I don't have a Lemmy account, and it works the other way too. ActivityPub connects all of us. I'm also sure interopability will strengthen as these services grow. It isn't just Mastodon focus migrations happening and this is really great!
Yeah, even if they backtrack on all of this shit, I am done with them. This episode as a whole is a great illustration of the danger of allowing a private business to run one of the biggest spaces for community and discourse in the world.
I feel like the people who are pirating (beyond online streaming sites) are a little more technically inclined anyways so the fediverse shouldn't be too much of an issue to navigate.
Plus, he's reacted to people using his image in unusual ways before. He has an absolutely hilarious episode where he responds to someone mass generating AI created art of him in love with a cabbage. He noted the AI did a poor job, presumably through lack of adequate training data, so he married a cabbage in camera to help provide said training data!
It's never too late to start pirating. I'm sure plenty of folks here would be happy to hook you up.
Not to apply any pressure, mind you. If you're just here to soak in the pirate culture tourists are fine too. There's probably a gift shop, take free copies of anything you find in there.
The bootlicking on that post (in a PIRACY sub nonetheless) is wild. Lots of “you don’t understand, Reddit is a COMPANY! 😭” I’ve peeked in on Reddit a bit and I’ve been seeing those kinds of “won’t somebody think of the shaaaareholdersss and adminss” comments on a few posts related to the protest. Things like this insightful little nugget:
“Seems all the reddit hate is based solely on reddit doing something similar to twitter, and I’m supposed to be upset cause “Elon man bad”? Tons of APIs cost money to use… build your own platform that freely allows everyone to scrape all “your” content, lead by example please…”
I wonder how many of those are Reddit employees and bots? They can’t all be u/spez alts, can they?
Oh and this is fun too, did you know that we’re all LiTeRaLlY extremists over here?
" Lemmy is very far-left. They are literally extremists, I’ll not be part of that shit."
Guess Reddit is going to be taken over by alt-right trolls too.
Edit: Still figuring out how the formatting works over here.
