It’s nice to have backups but doesn’t this just fracture the already small lemmy piracy community even more? Maybe running it as a mirror without the possibility to engage would be better.
Yes, but lemmy.ml went down today, before the blackout, and way ahead of the API shutdown. It WILL go down again due to the load.
This might fragment the community, but a dedicated instance by a r/Piracy mod is better than relying on one that could go down at any moment. Eventually, people will just use the new one and it won’t matter. I think this is a good call.
This is part of the reason I made my own instance. It’s now my responsibility to keep my own account functioning, not someone else’s. Anyone’s server going down won’t prevent me from using Lemmy or making comments.
Are there any tips to see check if VPN isn’t leaking anything when torrenting? Mullvad used to let you check with a magnet link they provided before they got rid of it.
Depending on the instance where the new piracy community is hosted, it could be a thousand times better than the original subreddit.
On Reddit you could openly discuss piracy, but had to be extremely careful with links and directly mentioning any specific tool or service. And yeah, using a base64 encode on a URL was often not good enough.
But host a Lemmy instance in a country that doesn’t care about digital piracy and you’re golden. In fact, if you’re not for profit in anyway (including ads) even Brazil would work, but I’m sure there are even better choices out there.
It definitely can flourish here given the right circumstances. I haven’t pirated anything in a long while, but I love seeing the community doing it’s thing. I’ll definitely be following along
Good mobile apps are key, I agree. My main use of reddit was on mobile. Currently using Jerboa, which seems okay except it keeps logging me out for some reason.
Jerboa as well, on android. I actually just figured it out, I have to long press on the comment and the option to reply will drop down. I feel like my father using this app, but I sort of love it. I’m figuring it out!
Im prolly gonna stick to Lemmy even if Reddit magically apologizes and gives us each a free cookie. Much better comment interface, and it’s not Reddit. :3
Bravo to you. This was absolutely the right call and I hope you let it rot if there isn’t a massive change of direction. Frankly, for me, even if they do roll things back I am still done with them. P2P is how the internet should be (funny considering torrenting has been a thing for how long now?) and thankfully we have guys like you to step up and help get this off the ground. Thanks!
can you add some “otherlanguages” section? or some trusted websites for keygens, also for the italian piracy site, theres a list with some of the italian most famous websites, both torrent and emule.
Please type the section in markdown in a comment and I’ll add it. If it’s getting too long comparatively to the others, paste it instead in rentry.org and give me a link
