I'm sad 😔.... Because of how it ends and because it is the end

This one left me in a state of palpable depression.

Though it's only the end if you don't count Eoin Colfer's authorized continuation, And Another Thing..., which I thought did a decent job capturing the feel of Adams's works (and rectified a few things I thought went wonky toward the end).

Ahhhhh look what just arrived in the mail! Finally! 😍 No misprints, nothing upside down, everything seems in tact. 💀 So far it's looking like I got a good batch! 😅

@TheCozyCat @bookstodon Dang... it's been ages since I've seen an active Webring. (The ones I used to be part of all dried up...) Will consider this one.

„The kidneys (grilled over a clear fire) lay on top of thick slices of bacon, surrounded by fried potatoes, golden brown and sizzling. The bacon was farm bacon (…) Gilbert fell to and enjoyed his supper; the grill, followed by apple tart, and the apple tart by home-made cheese.“ — I would love to read a novel full of food descriptions like that .Any #suggestions?

@Tinido @bookstodon If you have a Kindle and are good with fantasy, try Tom Bruno's Confessions of a Gourmand, or How to Cook a Dragon. A fantasy world as seen through the eyes of an adventurous apprentice chef, where every race and culture has a unique cuisine and palate.

Tonight I'm turning off the phone and reading The Wild Robot by Peter Brown because I'm more interested in it than my daughter. It's OK to read kids as an adult right?

Yes.

Yes, it is.

So Mastodon #Book folks. If knowing nothing about the person you had to recommend a book (or maybe one fiction and one nonfiction) what would you go with? #Books #Bookstodon @bookstodon @bookstodons

With the caveat that the answer is likely to change if you ask me in the next minute (had to basically throw a dart for "fiction"):

Nonfiction: The Boys in the Boat, Daniel James Brown.

Fiction: Kings of the Wyld, Nicholas Eames.

Has nobody mentioned Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series? If not, consider them mentioned.

The Light From Uncommon Stars, by Ryka Aoki, has an utterly surreal concept and took a while to set the hook, but is well worth the read for a powerful finale.

C. L. Polk's Witchmark has a nice M/M romance at the heart of it.

K. Arsenault Rivera's The Tiger's Daughter, first of a trilogy(?), has a solid F/F romance that really puts the hardship back in the "star-crossed lovers" trope.

Kings of the Wyld and Bloody Rose (especially the second) by Nicholas Eames have nonbinary characters.

Django Wexler has nonbinary characters in Hard Reboot, the Shadow Campaigns series, and the Burningblade & Silvereye series.
