@RuthFlaherty @edutooters Per common lore (not common law 😅), vampires are compelled by their nature to require an invitation. For a vampire, needing an invitation is not a matter of choice or etiquette. Thus, a warrant won't do much for a vampire cop's ability to enter a house uninvited.

However, the invitation needs to be given by the home's owner. So if the warrant is out for me and I'm renting, the vampire cop does not need my invitation, but the landlord's. And away I go in handcuffs.

@RuthFlaherty @edutooters This was such an interesting question that I had to look up squatter's rights and learn new terms like adverse possession! 😂 I would say that, if the squatter meets all the legal standards for an adverse possession in the given jurisdiction, then the vampire cop has no choice but to recognize the squatter's resultant ownership of the premises as valid, and act accordingly.

@RuthFlaherty @edutooters However, this brings up a question: is a vampire's definition of "ownership" the same as the legal definition of it? As supernatural creatures, it's not unreasonable to think that their definition of "ownership" may be based more on "spiritual or psychic imprints" rather than on legal titles and paperworks.

@RuthFlaherty @edutooters
This means that, going back to our original question, a vampire cop may recognize a long-time renter as the "owner" of the house, the same way law may recognize a long-time squatter as the legal owner.

Not having authoritative codified text on vampire compulsions, we may never know the correct answer. 😅
