Exactly. Started as a fun thing, “Oh look how much I contribute” and over time was abused to the point of bot farms selling accounts with high karma. Not to mention trolls trying to get the lowest karma they could.
Long answer, you’re going to get annoyed with it on your main machine, things like pihole will have all of your network traffic routed through it, they’ll need to be constantly on. Plus with self hosting it’s just better to have the server/client setup, you’ll thank yourself later.
If cost is a factor, look into an old/used PC, I have old PCs from 10 years ago with linux servers running on them.
If power is a factor, look into a simple raspberry pi, or I like the potatos as well (found on Amazon)
I’ve heard good things about Tidal, it integrates with Plex which is why people in my circles like it, but overall from what I hear good quality, they pay artists fairly, and no ads
Best answer here. Soul is more of a high level concept, I’m not a spiritual person by any means, but say there was a fully conscious AI, I would say there is a difference between that and human consciousness, and that would be what I define as the soul. What is that, is that neurons in the head or is that an amalgamation of our entire being? Idk.
I don’t believe anything happens after death, I think ashes to ashes, but I do think there is a spark, something there that we can’t quite quantify… yet.
I don’t think there’s anything like that for me. Both of your examples have been extremely helpful to me. Proxy is a simple thing that lets me work with my DNS a bit better, so I can go to plex.<<my domain>> easy enough now, or any of my other services. Then dashboards just so I know top level if anything is off, hard drive almost full, something pulling too much power ,etc
It’s a shit company with shit morals and shit practices, but I use it… If I have to. And usually that means I’ve checked locally, I’ve checked other big retailers, and if everyone fails me I’ll reluctantly buy it on Amazon.
I honestly don’t know why a rdr remaster wasn’t a fast follow after rdr2 as a dlc. They already remade the whole map in rdr2, you already have the quests, most of the characters have new models, seems like you already have a solid layer to just redo it all.
If it’s just for you, try it out, no harm no foul. If you are planning on hosting for other people then it’s way too volatile, people will depend on your service to get access to Lemmy
I think it’s hard to just handwave and say “meme bad”. These are some of the people I’ve come across with it:
First the easy one, edgelords online want to rile people up. I personally don’t care, engaging them at all is just encouraging them. There are worse things to make memes about IMO, this is not one of them to get riled up over.
Second, people who genuinely don’t care about this and think it’s ridiculous the media covered it so much. I’m half in this boat, there are way more newsworthy things to cover than 5 people drowning in a custom made sub on a mission that they literally signed away their life to do. However,
Third, people who see this as a tragedy. The other half of me is here, at least one of the people genuinely wanted to see the Titanic. Which, maybe it’s hard for us to understand the price tag, but if you had a dream of seeing it since you were a child, wanted nothing more than to see it, and were offered it, would you? And if not, if someone offered you a trip to see what you wanted to more than anything else in the world, would you want to? Go step on the moon? It’s like if someone offered you the ability to literally go to a fictional place, then that 250k doesn’t seem so much, if that was your once in a lifetime must do once and exactly once, if you saved up for 20 years. Those are the people I mourn.
Fourth, and I think this is a small group, people who are legit sad but treat humor as a coping mechanism. I think a lot of people forget about them, they aren’t trying to make situations like this into something controversial, they just cope differently, and that’s okay.
Guaranteed this is not just for fun watch parties. They can (and probably will) do things like pausing ads when you look away to make sure you watch them.
they hurt themselves here though because Apollo's dev gave them the buyout option and they said he was trying to extort them. I doubt any of the app developers would be too keen on this now without covering their ass to pretty extreme extents
Eh this is the same strategy adobe used. Get them into your ecosystem early, that way there is an entire generation who comes in demanding figma as their tool of choice.
