@lebelge @classicalmusic Interesting. Though I’m an avant person, it’s neat to explore these lesser-known corners of the classical world.

@bookstodon I'm looking for book recommendations for an 11yo who reads at a much more advanced level. He likes sci-fi. He has read the Hitchhiker's Guide series and loved them. I think he would enjoy some more 'hard' sci-fi as well. He needs something challenging but without subject matter that is too mature. Thanks for any help!

@breadandcircuses @rabbit_fighter @bookstodon Agreed about Deepness In The Sky because it is way underrated—it’s an amazing hard SF thriller full of great ideas.. However, the villains have some truly evil tech that might give an 11 year old nightmares.

When I was a precocious 11 year old, I loved Dune —it’s a big space opera with a lot of thought-provoking stuff hidden in the cracks. LeGuin’s The Dispossessed might also be a good pick too.

@Samlane86 @bookstodon @breadandcircuses @rabbit_fighter Thanks for the trigger warning on Dispossessed, I haven’t read it in decades.

My fave version of “Quattro pezzi per orchestra” with Jurg Wyttenbach and the Orchestre et Chœur de la Radio-Télévision Polonaise de Cracovie.
