Command & Conquer was like that for me. I pirated Red Alert 2, but ended up buying it like six times via various collections. None of that would have happened had I not had that first pirated copy.
I was a happy Netflix user until 2018, before that I haven’t really pirated any movies (with very rare exceptions) for almost a decade but I recently started again. I’m was doing my monthly budgeting and realized I was paying for too many subscription services. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Shudder, Disney+, Hulu and Crunchyroll....
I’d honestly be willing to spend $30-$60 a month for 2012 netflix. It’s the content loss that really killed things for me. Stupid-ass copyright holders.
Reddit’s algorithm has slowly deprioritized text-based content over time. I moderate a large discussion sub and our view counts have slowly declined over the past ten years, with the biggest drop happening when the redesign released. Discussion did happen on /r/piracy, but you had to go to the subreddit and sort by new.
Pretty self-explanatory but the idea is to combine the "share" logo with the crossbones. The message is peers 2 peers, from many to many, sharing is caring, but the deisgn still recalls the awesome pirate flag.
Ironically, since I started pirating, I've spent MORE money on movies.
TL;DR at the bottom....
I started pirating movies again after a decade

Why Lemmy's Piracy Community Outshines r/Piracy?
r/Piracy on Reddit is more of a meme subreddit. I’ve never seen any actual discussion or valuable information as I do on this community. Why is that?
To celebrate the transition to the Fediverse, here's the flag I designed and posted a couple of years ago on r/piracy (lemm.ee)
