If you recently learned that your book (or books) were used without your knowledge or consent to train AI, here's what you can do next, according to the Authors Guild (which has already filed a class action suit against OpenAI, representing more than a dozen writers).

@ErikJonker @laminda @bookstodon I love your question:)

I guess it would be ok. Problems arise when you start copying things or using somebody's intellectual property in your own product or service without their permission.

Or do you see ways in which this becomes a sort of loophole that you could use to your own [commercial] advantage?

@ErikJonker @laminda @bookstodon or maybe from a slightly different angle. What is the difference between including something in a LLM and using somebody's work in, say, an academic paper?

There probably is for sure, but it's nice to play around with these kinds of questions.

It also makes me wonder. Would it be ok for LLM's to use other people's work if it would add footnotes to the works used to produce the output? Might make for an interesting experiment.

Good point.

I do not think humans always properly represent the origal however, albeit for different reasons probably.
