Unpopular opinion: Instagram is successful among teens because it gives them exactly what they want and what they think they need to compete. So the fault doesn't lie solely with Meta, although they're making money of unhealty behaviour. But it's first and foremost a cultural problem.
Photographers and artists rejoice—just like in the official iOS and Android apps, pictures are no longer cropped to 16:9 on the web version of Mastodon. Link previews have also gotten a face lift, and will now show both the article date and author when available.
@riggbeck@bookstodon A quote doesn't have to be from a book. But when you're trying to get kids to read and have literally millions of quotes from books to choose from, selecting one that was never in a book seems kinda lazy if not disingenuous, don't you think?
@riggbeck@bookstodon It's cool that this quote expresses things you feel about reading. But when you're trying to introduce kids to reading it should probably give them a glimpse of what they're missing. Just my 2c.
@Gargron There's a lot of ways Mastodon needs to get easier and more polished, eg a DHT to find user addresses. But I'll rather have this raw diamond than be a pawn in Zucc's grace.
