@riffraff@germany@folklore It's sadly not possible for all stories - too many are too long for the Alt character limit of 1,000 letters. But when it's possible to post the tale in its entirety as Alt image, I try to remember to do so.

German folklore has plenty of tales of people being hurled into the future after visiting an Otherworld. I have not encountered a single tale where people travel backwards in time, though.
@KonchogTenzenSangpo@germany@folklore Well, the Saterland has its own, tiny linguistic group. So I would not be surprised if some of their folklore has really ancient roots.
@KonchogTenzenSangpo@germany@folklore I do know thst Ludwig Strackerjan's folk tale collection has quite a few tales from the Saterland, but I have not surveyed them in depth.

@KonchogTenzenSangpo@germany@folklore There are many tales of water spirits in German folklore, although I habe only translated a minuscule portion of them.
In the deep winter, and the dead of the night, the ghosts hold their own masses. And the unfortunate among the living can stumble into them, if they go to church at the wrong time...
