Hello. I recently joined. Some questions. How do I view private messages (that being those I sent to a member, rather than posts to a community)? I’ve looked in my profile, but it’s not listed there. I only see “Overview”, “Comments”, “Posts”, and “Saved”. “Saved” shows nothing, and both “Overview”...
I saw someone recommending Aether aside from Lemmy and Kbin, what is it ? googling Aether give me...
"According to ancient and medieval science, aether, also known as the fifth element or quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. "
this isn't very reliable as it relies on someone (be it real person or a bot) to archive the specific post / answer.
if your post / answer gets in the front page or all or popular, there might be a chance, but if it died in 'New' ? fat chance there's an archive for it.
I haven't found any difference as well, it could be that basic pdf is just pdf with reduced functions, like without bookmarks, linkings, and less image pages like covers.
The Titanic director has made 33 dives to the shipwreck and visited ocean depths in a submersible he built himself. He compares OceanGate to the Titanic in that both ignored safety warnings.
Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....
Would also alleviate confusion for any new adopters.
there's no need really, for new adopters or if you're planning to bring someone to the fediverse, simply do not mention anything about it being federated and just direct them to your preferred instances (in this case, kbin). Let them just learn kbin for a while before introducing the interconnected instances.
also the reason you can still find a dialogue window from like Win95 lol, people often whine how Windows doesn't look as pretty as MacOS, but I think that's just the price for crazy backwards compatibility.
if they remove those old elements, I'd bet people are gonna rage about how their old games or software no longer work.
huh, I remember they actually banned a sub (WatchPeopleDie, IIRC) about footage where people actually dying, like the sub is full of videos of people's last moment, not like the PeopleFuckingDying which is a funneh sub, or WatchPeopleDieInside which is another funneh sub. Maybe it's too morbid.
I just found another place called Squabbles which seems like a mix of twitter and reddit, with posts and communities but threaded like twitter for its discussions. Is it part of the fediverse? or is it its own thing?

YSK that you can access deleted reddit answers with the wayback machine! The same goes for private communities etc. (web.archive.org)
No AD revenue for reddit and you can still benefit from all the answers given in the past for your questions.

Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff
