The problem with blacklists is that it's trivial to make endless domains to spam. The fediverse avoided this by being too small to matter , but as the reddit exodus begins this is about to change

yes, constantly adding new domains and spamming with them is a probably vector, but I'm not quite sure if that works due to how federation works. I am not quite that familiar with the implementations.

I'm not going to force anyone to use this, but at the scale these spam accounts are increasing, we need something now.

It's based on dynamic count. For now it's a very simple how many users per post there are and each instance can set their own threshold for it.

It's not about few users, it's about a tons of users and no activity. If you have 5000 users and 3 posts, it's likely those are all spam accounts. This is what we're checking for right now.

This is not a manual process currently, but I'm planning to add the possibility to whitelist and blacklist instances manually in the future.

db0, to technology in Mastodon thinks Lemmy’s privacy stinks. What say you?
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The same is true for raddle. They kid themselves if they think anyone can't record anything in there forever.

Anyway it's also inaccurate. Deleted accounts are purged from the DB, so they're definitelly not visible anymore

Likewise you you edit your comment, it's edited in the DB.

It just means most of the people with principles have already moved here, or that reddit is engaging in disgusting levels of astroturfing. The latest Announcement is even worse. Regardless, it's just ruined.

db0, to piracy in Is it safe to directly share pirated links?
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You can share as long as you keep one degree of separation. Prefer base64 links

It’s honestly quite funny. I would have thought piracy is the one sub they wouldn’t care if it’s down.

The second mod did it. They did not contact me at all so it seems they’re communicating with the admins

automated message, sure. But they demoded just me, which is obviously very exact.

Very low bandwidth caps will be a problem with fediverse.

Other than that, check your steal % once you have the VM. If it’s over 20% consistently, you’re being ripped off.
