I should take a break from whining about to crow about my big breakthrough. Today, I successfully sent my first messages and replies between and . And all it required was a complete overhaul the custom ActivityPub outbox.

It’s a small step forward, but a huge milestone for me. Hopefully, it will translate to big wins for other devs who can use my libraries in the future.

What will the talking heads say in the morning? They were declaring polling Armageddon but tonight the actual polls -- voting -- sent a radically different message. Listen to the voters, not the pollsters, assholes.

@jeffjarvis Because pollsters are forbidden from calling cell phones, land lines are their only option. People with landlines are (literally) dying out, skewing poll results further and further.

If you could test just 10 things in the Fediverse on an ongoing basis, what would you test? What's most urgent?

What if you could test 100 things?

(For the non-geeks among us: this is a technical geek / protocol / standards conformance / interoperability question)

Just this: there are tons of ways that an API call can fail, but most Fediverse software just returns something unhelpful, like 500 Internal Server Error.

For production software, that’s probably reasonable, but a well-written test suite should help people debug, not just tell them about the bug.

So if I have a voice, a test suite should really return errors like: “this message was not accepted because it is missing a ‘name’ field.”

⚡ ActivityPub development made easy

Our PubKit service now has an official website, and will be launching early next month!

OMFG this is amazing, and it fixes what is probably the biggest thing holding back Fediverse development for God-knows-how-long. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I’m going to owe you such an enormous debt when this ships. @pixelfed

@benpate@mastodon.social avatar

Yup. I’m learning Docker ONLY for testing ActivityPub. It makes me hate Docker almost as much as I hate ActivityPub. We can’t wait any longer for “official” tools.. so I’m extremely grateful for project-led tools like this one. Thank YOU PixelFed devs.

Whenever I’m able to get anything running on ActivityPub acceptably, I’m committing to make SOMETHING similar to this to make it easier for the next dev to follow me.

The Fediverse deserves it.

has recently crossed the milestone of 600,000 accounts and, if things keep going as they are, we're expecting it to reach a whopping 1 million by the end of the year. Quite impressive, right?

Now, there's been some talk about already hitting the 1 million mark, according to certain stats trackers. However, personally, I think that count might not be entirely accurate. But hey, who knows?

Either way, it's looking more and more likely that Misskey or Lemmy will become the second Fediverse software to have a million accounts. That is, of course, unless neither nor decide to federate this year. So let's stay tuned and see what happens, shall we?

Yup. They’re two separate protocols. ActivityPub currently works with many different apps and servers. I think AT is headed that direction, but the last I’ve heard, it still only runs in BlueSky’s servers. Do the bridges between them make them@one whole network? I don’t think so, but I think that depends on your POV @makasu @PieterPeach @fediversenews @atomicpoet

@activitypubtestsuite - question for the group: even if we were not to use it’s codebase, is there value in getting the old ActivityPub.rocks test suite live again? Just to see the old test in action?

benpate,
@benpate@mastodon.social avatar

It would be tremendously valuable. Anything that helps us test run a new app without installing a whole instance of some other app. How much work it would take to get running? @tchambers @activitypubtestsuite
