Is it wrong if I think your best performance was as yourself taking a bubble bath?

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to asklemmy in Homeowners of lemmy who bought in 2020-21, how are you feeling today about your purchase?

It’s technically our second place and it’s bigger, newer, but needs a bit of updating.

It’s not everything we wanted and between closing costs, moving costs, the exhaustion of moving and adjusting to the move I don’t think we’re going to do it again before we’re priced out of the thing we want.

We were hedging against either a bigger market correction or a bigger price explosion. Instead we just got weird global stress and fatigue.

We’re simultaneously the horse and the rider. We’re centaurs, lol. It would be like if centaurs invented cars. They could still run for fun or for exercise, but at some point they have to accept the car is better at certain things.

A reduction in economic opportunity will naturally be met with declining birthrates which we’re already seeing. People who aren’t thriving don’t want to have children. I don’t expect that to change, I expect it to accelerate as automation reduces opportunity further and further.

You don’t need genocide, you just need to wait 80 years.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to microblogmemes in Capitalism is killing our planet

I think there’s one important distinction.

Capitalism is a “rich-get-richer” system.

In any finite economy, this is immoral, because one person (or small group) wins, and everybody else loses. By definition. And once you’re a loser, you’re sunk.

So capitalist apologists rely on the illusion/dream of limitless growth because it means they get to pretend that when they steal from you they are somehow “creating value”.

And the volume is cranked too high.

And they are intentionally annoying.

And the last time I had a video on without my adblocker, an ad came on that was literally a person acting like they were a content creator. It was over 3 minutes long. I was only half paying attention (I was driving and just listening to the video) and when I realized it was wrong I thought I had bumped the phone and changed videos. It was so disorienting.

All the ads are lies or propaganda. I hate them. I actively avoid products that find a way to force their ads in front of my face.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to android in Does Google Inserting Deceptively Placed Ads in the Play Store seem icky to anyone else?

It’s not a subtle ad. Google has sold the top slots of your search to companies in exchange for money.

When your search for “Excel”, Google doesn’t try to find you the most relevant result. They find you the highest paying ad, and then what you’re searching for.

Don’t be evil.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, (edited ) to technology in The 2023 Bletchley Declaration: A Major Leap in AI Safety and Ethics — Ultra Unlimited

The article sure reads like AI word salad. Unfortunately it’s just legible enough that it could just be a dumb human with a thesaurus.

The government website is way more readable.

gov.uk/…/the-bletchley-declaration-by-countries-a…

Lol.

“In recognition of the transformative positive potential of AI, and as part of ensuring wider international cooperation on AI, we resolve to sustain an inclusive global dialogue that engages existing international fora and other relevant initiatives and contributes in an open manner to broader international discussions, and to continue research on frontier AI safety to ensure that the benefits of the technology can be harnessed responsibly for good and for all. We look forward to meeting again in 2024.”

The takeaway:

we resolve to sustain an inclusive global dialogue that engages existing international fora and other relevant initiatives and contributes in an open manner to broader international discussions, and to continue research on frontier AI safety to ensure that the benefits of the technology can be harnessed responsibly for good and for all.

Minus the bs:

We resolve to keep talking about this. Let’s meet again next year.

Literally all modern evidence points to the healthier tribal and nomadic humans having animal-based diets.

Healthier teeth, healthier skin and hair, longer lifespans, better musculature.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to news in CNN Host Left Stunned As IDF Confirms Israel Hit Refugee Camp With Airstrike

That was a really long post. Nothing you said refuted anything I said. You’re literally doing the thing I’m talking about.

Do you support Hamas? Just admit it.

After a decade of near-zero conflict Hamas unilaterally launched the largest offensive between the two states in a decade. They murdered babies and tortured and paraded civilian hostages around. They can’t be trusted and should be destroyed.

In the last decade since the last Israel/Palestine “war” in 2014 Israel has had barely any military action against Palestine. It’s not like there’s some kind of genocide happening - if Israel wanted genocide Gaza could be wiped from the planet overnight.

Gaza has no democracy, no legitimate government, no industry, no trade. So no hope for the future. Countries don’t want to take Palestinian refugees because they attempt coups and threaten to destabilize regions.

The instant that Gaza forms a legitimate democratic government the attacks would stop. The moment that Gazans formed a non military state, the conflict stops.

Don’t get me wrong here - the situation for non-radicalized Palestinians is total dog shit. They are the biggest victims here but the blame falls on Hamas in my view.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to news in CNN Host Left Stunned As IDF Confirms Israel Hit Refugee Camp With Airstrike

I literally don’t understand why people have a hard time with this.

Israel has organized, funded armed forces wearing uniforms. Hamas has teenagers in street clothes hiding in hospitals, schools, and houses.

Israel attempts to protect it’s citizens, Hamas uses human shields.

If you agree with the actions of Hamas, which are designed to maximize fear and force Israeli troops to make hard decisions during combat, you support terrorists. Just admit it. Calling Hamas a terrorist organization isn’t necessarily perjorative. But it is perfectly descriptive.

If you don’t like that you support terrorists, then you have some deep reflecting to do.

Not_Alec_Baldwin, to nostupidquestions in What makes a bicycle so expensive?

“some brands of bikes” make frames out of carbon fiber with wireless derailleurs and have rear facing radar to detect when other bikes or vehicles are approaching, how fast, and on which side.

When your exercise, your recreation, your hobby, and your transportation are all the same thing, it’s easy to justify spending more to make those things as easy and pleasant as possible.

You can get a perfectly usable bike for very little money in America… Probably still made in China though 😂
