I had been feeling a bit drawn in to reddit for the past few months before the divorce. I feel like the slower pace at which content comes out on Lemmy is good for me in that way. I can’t just scroll and scroll and scroll my entire day away....
Yeah doomscrolling started to be a real problem for me. I am a new(ish) father, so scrolling through /r/all was starting to give me some serious dread every day. I realized if I just scrolled through my subscribed subs and made sure there was nothing political there, my mental health went waaaaay way up. Like night and day difference, I became a much different (and better) person to be around.
Yeah, content is lacking. I haven’t tried telegram but my fear is that it will be the same issues reddit had for me. Too much content so I just sat there all day sucking from the content teat. The conteat if you will.
Yeah, it’s like my methadone. Like I’ll feel the itch, pull up my feed and realize that all the links are purple already and be like. Oh, I guess I don’t actually NEED that right now…
Exactly! It’s like I didn’t realize how much I was itching for the next blue link until it wasn’t readily available. It really helped out things in perspective for me.
That’s a great way of putting it. Any advice on getting started with RSS feeds? I get how they work but do you have like an RSS feed app that you input the urls into and you get a notification or something?
Last fall I moved into an apartment with a plum tree in the front yard. I don't know anything about plants or trees or fruit, and now that summer is here there are hundreds of plums dangling off this tree. They're attracting millions of ants, as well as raccoons, possums, rats, and a few bold humans who I've caught plucking from...
If avoiding the ant-ageddon is your main goal, pick them and give them away. Free plums sign like others have said? Idk if I’d expect someone to pick them though, I’d pick them and bag them myself.
If it’s like what do you DO with a million plums after they’re picked, I’m plum out of ideas besides give them away. The jam and wine suggestions sounds interesting. Plum pudding mayhaps?
Buying some type of investment property was my first idea too, but this raises a good point. If the original question was that you had one hour for the funds to actually clear before they are taken away then I don’t think buying a house would be an option.
Is anyone else enjoying the slower pace of content?

If I gave you $1 million in cash to spend in 1 hour, after which the money will disappear, what would you buy?
I have asked this question to countless people (mostly in hair salons) as an alternative to small talk, and it always yields interesting results....
