Exactly. What’s annoying are oblivious people, who are the majority in every single generation.

The most “2000s internet” I get is me and my internet pals hosting our own websites)

I am concerned that the payment for starting a node would create an effect opposite of what’s advertised. Looked it up and the cost of setting up a node is more than all my savings. That absolutely deters an average Joe who just wants to contribute to the network. Who would want and be able to set up a node then? Either crypto enthusiasts or someone who has big funds already. Like big corporations and government agencies. Also if the operators of the nodes receive money, that means someone would have to lose money, right? Sounds a little bit like a pyramid. Maybe I am wrong, but the logic seems weird.

I mean, I am confused where they would take the money if we assume everyone who paid to set up a node gets 100% of their money back.

But Mac pretty much requires specific, ultra-expensive, not very repairable or upgradable devices.

Those that a) use whatever comes preinstalled on the computer (and Windows is on the affordable ones); b) need software that’s not available on Linux. But yea, I would say that most people I know wouldn’t even notice a switch to Linux. There are distros that “just work”.

Why Matrix and not XMPP? XMPP is also flawed, but much less bloated, easier to selfhost and doesn’t have so many people being on central instance like matrix.org (there are other arguments as well).

It does NOT cost money on F-Droid. You don’t even need to install the market itself, you can get the app from F-Droid’s website (though then you’d have to check for updates yourself). For me, it was a chance to get mom to F-droid.

I find it weird and sad that they only announce their mobile apps on the main page. You’d have to go to their Github and only then see that they also have a desktop client. I personally don’t mind it being terminal-only, but I see how people could have an issue with there being no GUI. I just find it disrespectful. I don’t personally use it (I am mostly on IRC and XMPP), but this just caught my attention.

I preferred xmpp because it’s easier to host and consumes MUCH less RAM than a Matrix server. idk how both of them scale, but I only have myself and a few friends and family on my XMPP server and works fine.

I use Gajim, family uses Conversations.

Discord refuses to remove my phone number attached to my account

Hi, there’s this situation i currently have with discord support, that they refuse to delete my phone number from my account. Basically every time i try to manually remove it, my account gets locked up until i add another phone number in order to continue accessing the service, “for security reasons” with no option for...

Matrix is just reinventing the bike, go on xmpp

I am very upset that I can’t find good midrange players. Either cheap crap or hyper-expensive things like this. My last one broke and I don’t buy the replacement parts solely because I still have hope of finding an appropriate one. For now, I use a perma-offline, degoogled smartphone for this (because I heavily prefer not to use a smartphone in daily life normally), but using a relatively big and heavy brick for a player is VERY inconvenient if you’re used to a small lightweight device.

Maybe they are yet to be decirated with “normal” film instead.
