@vee@actuallyautistic These are great questions.
The way I see it, the importance given to identity and personality come from the culture we live in. As a rule, NT folks seem to require labels and hierarchy. Most ND folks are willing to be in the flow of the moment and are less attached to permanent concrete identity.
Self/Essence is more of a lifelong emerging understanding based on ever-changing experiences.

@vee@actuallyautistic I think that #ActuallyAutistic folks often get caught in trying to fit their concept of self into NT definitions of acceptable roles and status and it messes with us.
As for why people attack those of us with identities that don't match their specs ... it's a nasty mystery 🤷♀️

I've started wondering if the negative reaction NTs have to NDs is related to the phenomenon they're calling "Uncanny Valley" in robotics. People have an automatic negative reaction to robots who are very close to human appearance, but slightly off.
@actuallyautistic@CuriousMagpie This isn’t my area of research, but I’m quite sure we’ve known about sound sensitivity/reactivity for some time. Maybe she’s just not a good reporter.
@CuriousMagpie@actuallyautistic Quite sure that auditory sensitivity (and other sensitivities) are in fact being checked if you are getting tested for ADHD and autism and are quite a common symptom of these. Maybe the reporter should have researched a bit more?
I just found out that my landlord is raising my rent $150/mo, adding heat into my utilities, and no longer wants to accept my housing voucher. He could have told me when he decided 4 months ago, but waited until I asked him for a copy of the new lease to review. I have to be out by November 1. Like everywhere else, the #housing market is tight. I don't want to be homeless again.
I'm already exhausted and overwhelmed.
Please send kind thoughts my way @actuallyautistic
Went to the hospital today for neurological testing. I saw only four other patients who were wearing a mask and no practitioners or staff. I honestly don't understand.

@neversosimple@actuallyautistic I get that many medical providers are overworked - but damn! I've been overworked and can't imagine being that rude to someone in such a powerless situation.
