"Wiley to stop using “Hindawi” name amid $18 million revenue decline"

"In March, Clarivate removed 19 Hindawi journals from its Web of Science index for failing to meet editorial quality criteria. Wiley later shut down four Hindawi journals it had identified as 'heavily compromised by paper mills.'"

"[Retraction Watch has] logged more than 3,400 retractions from Hindawi journals [...] In April, an executive said the publisher would retract 1,200 more"

That strategy could also backfire badly, if they don't get a grip of the problem and contaminate their mother brand.

Wow, this seems a very draconian and impractical stance for to take for its grants involving foreign partners! 👇

Article below haa a full takedown. @academicchatter

"Beginning October 1, 2023, foreign subaward recipients will be required to provide the U.S. prime grantee “copies of all lab notebooks, all data and all documentation that support the research outcomes…no less than every six months, or more frequently based on risks”"

Interesting. Part of the implementation of the data-access mandates?

And we thought timesheets for EU grants were tedious. Still, it will force pretty solid working practices on those labs!

The 6-month interval seems extreme, but I can imagine they might be worried about getting the data after the money has been spent.

Definitely worth a try, if only for editorial education. (I think the editorial enforcement procedure has been there since they introduced this policy.)

A propos, an old blog:
