We are really living in hell. Some weirdo who my gf is friends with and happens to have the hots for her intentionally infected her with covid with the hopes that it would result in them spending more time together. She literally JUST had covid a month ago.
Multiple people have been shot and killed at a Dollar General in Jacksonville, Florida. The shooter first went to nearby HBCU, Edward Waters University, but was turned away by security. Details are developing.
Watching Twitter's death spiral is just sad. I mean yeah, it had tons of issues, but the fact that so many communities and movements are going to be broken/fractured because of this is depressing.
I finally caved in and created a Bluesky account since so many of my twitter friends aren't coming to Mastodon lol. I probably won't post there much, but it'll be nice to stay in contact with people once twitter implodes permanently.
I don't know how to describe it but this post 2016 society has kinda broken me in a way that I can't describe. Yes, I get it, "Lol things have always been bad" blah blah blah, but this dystopian shit is something different. I think the combination of just seeing how comfortable people have become just being outright cruel and bigoted combined with the apathy and just flat out resignation of folks who may be decent, but they've just normalized all of this bullshit killed my youthful spirit.
Also, while we're on the subject of elections, I just want to point out how so many people just don't want better from a policy standpoint, not because certain policies won't benefit society overall, but because some folks think certain policies won't benefit them individually, even when evidence is presented proving otherwise. It's disheartening to say the least.
Just look at masking, people just watched millions of people die, yet so many people are losing their shit when asked to wear a mask to protect themselves and other people because they feel like it's an inconvenience.
I reallyyy thought that we moved past the "Republicans and Dems are both the same" discourse after these past 7 years. Like, yes, the Democratic Party is still very shitty (although less so in many ways than they were a decade ago but that's a low bar) but like, we have Republicans sending lawyers to right wing indoctrination classes and forcing children to be taught that slavery was a good thing.
I like how we're at the point in this dystopian landscape where we know any Republican victory on the national level would lead to the end of democracy and the de jure legitimization of outright fascism becoming the law of the land, but society is just going on and about like everything is normal.
Ms. Howard was one of the workers in Montgomery who fought back against those racist boaters, but she ended up losing her job. Please hit up her cashapp if you want to support her, it's $ismgettimom53.
