I've read a couple of things about this guy since joining lemmy, and none of it is quite news worthy. Beside his pedigree he's just an idiot with a lot of misguided ideas who shouldn't be given a platform.

skeuomorphism

New word learned.

For the lazy: it's a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues (attributes) from structures that were necessary in the original.

For instance : a lamp in the shape of a candle, or the folders in a operating system.

Hi Margot, just wanted you to know that you're always in my "hot" sort. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You say infringing on privacy is legitimized by terrorism. Yet you also state that Germany isn't doing all that due to historical reasons. Shouldn't Germany be a bees nest of terrorists right now?

Also those historical reasons aren't only important in Germany. A state apparatus with widespread surveillance possibilities can be misused very easily. Mind you the Nazis came to power due to a misconstrued 'leftist terror plot' (the Reichstag fire caused by a misguided Dutchman).

Powers like these can be very lethal if used wantonly. American squabbles about trans rights show that the technique of 'othering' is still very viable. And scary.

Should modern surveillance be used? Well it's a bit late to talk about that, as it is already used. But it should be used sparingly and reluctantly and should be very well overseen. You know, because of historical reasons (and not just in Germany).

After 200 temperature cycles, the 2020 PSCs still retained 90% of their power, indicating that they are capable of short-term stability. Now, what remains to be researched is long-term stability, and what material advances could be applied to boost these 200 temperature cycles (days) to 20–25 years.

They are making some progress, it seems. The person or group that can make it stable enough to last a couple of decades stands to benefit.

Context is important for meaning.

The nazis used a salute one French painter imagined the Romans using. In the United states kids used to make the same salute to pledge allegiance to the flag. This doesn’t make the american kids (nor the Romans) nazis. Becouse the context matters.

That is awesome. Shame that the corporate greed destroyed that spirit…

I like Quill18 as a non-hypey gamer who plays a nice array of games. He’s mostly into stategic sims, but ventures out to other game types every now and than. He has a solid understanding of the games he plays, yet he doesn’t cheese it.
