You put yourself together. Bit by bit. Part Sometimes you do it with clarity and precision. As if by a manual. As if provided with a step-by-step guide. At other times, in total darkness. In the midnight hour. Grappling with esoteric secrets. With hieroglyphics. An impenetrable mystery. Like Ikea instructions for building anything...
ICYMI: In this recent blog post, I talk about my upcoming book, "The Spiral and The Threads" and how it "completes" The Nod/Wells Timelines. Give it a read!
My short story is live on Kindle Unlimited! I had so much fun writing this tale. We combined some of my favorite holiday things like a big performance with lights (courtesy of magic), a chorus singing, hot drinks, gift giving. And then fused it with a low stakes fantasy adventure and magical creatures. I hope you enjoy it! Five stars: Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune (2021) is a slow, quiet, melancholy and sometimes funny look at life and death. Wallace dies unexpectedly, the day after firing a woman who desperately needs her job. Wallace, though, now has to contend with attending his own funeral and being stuck in a teashop with a reaper (Mei), a ferryman (Hugo), a ghost (Nelson), and a dog (Apollo).
Five stars: Yellow Kayak by Nina Laden and Melissa Castrillón (Illustrator) (2018) is the tale of a child, their friend and a trip in a kayak through calm and rough waters. The story is conveyed through minimalist poetry and luscious illustrations by an English-Colombian artist.
Better starts with dissatisfaction. A holy discontent. A decided refusal to never relinquish the possibility of what could be to what has been. To never accept the current state of things. It starts with a willing rejection. It starts with a conscientious objection.
My latest eBook volume of "The Screw Turns" (Vol 5) is now available on Amazon, and at a special holiday price of $3.99

“It is so much more comfortable to think that we know what it all means”, Anne Lamott says. But, sometimes the really magical, top-shelf, good shit, sometimes WE PROGRESS when we realize we don't know a goddamn thing. I came to collage to stop overthinking...
Huh. It just occurred to me that not everyone reads all the time. Like, there’s a bunch of people without books they’re reading right now. That concept is so bizarre to me. I’ve always got several books going. Ebooks, audiobooks and physical copies of books. If you don’t read anymore, when and why did you stop? No judgement. I’m genuinely curious. @bookstodon#bookstodon#books#reading#amreading
"The ongoing challenge of the creative life is how to balance the outward sharing of one’s gift with the inward stewardship of the soul from which that gift springs." - @mariapopova
I finally read Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell last week, what an wonderful imagination she has. It's fascinating to see where it takes a story and the places her characters inhabit. A really good storyteller is an author I treasure.
