Just bought a commercial license for #Obsidian. Had a good read of the license terms and realised it's the right thing to do. @obsidianmd
I like that they're using an honour system for this. I could have kept on using Obsidian while justifying it's (mainly) for personal use, but the fact is, I'm actively using it to earn a living in my company and with my writing.
Thanks, @kepano, for trusting us! Simply expecting someone to act with integrity without forcing them to, is a powerful thing.
These kinds of posts are useful reminders. A similar one last year is the only reason I know to pay for Obsidian. I started using it for personal stuff… and when I’d started using it for work I’d forgot on (if I ever knew) that it needed a commercial license.

I want to try the digital #Zettelkasten method to organize my #thoughts. It's not so much to enhance #productivity but to gain a deeper understanding and organic growth over time. I have heard people using #Obsidian#NoteTakingApp for it. Are there any tips or other apps to check out?
Softwarewise I’m using Obsidian, it’s quite a nice Markdown editor which “future proofs” your Zettelkasten which @ctietze frequently recommends (they maintain a great primary resource for learning to use Zettelkasten: zettelkasten.de). The files are generated in a simple text file, and are human readable, which means you can always simply copy paste them for use in a different editor which supports Markdown.
@nicole has a fantastic 16-minute Youtube video at https://youtu.be/vS-b_RUtL1A explaining how she organises her notes in Obsidian for findability with LATCH: Location, Alphabet, Time, Category and Hierarchy.
Cater to each of these search approaches with combinations of Obsidian's organising methods: Folders, Links, Tags and Metadata.
"(...) In conclusion, for now, I will run both types of metadata side-by-side: hashtags as well as internal links. And I’ll create group views, ie. lists, using Maps Of Content and Dataview. (...)"
Does anyone feel like sitting down in front of the computer and playing around with their notes a bit?
I just wrote down how I set up and try to maintain my (academic) reading list in #Obsidian using the #Projects plugin by @marcusolsson and #Zotero. Might post it again after the holidays, but for now, here's the description of my approach for those who asked. Thus, fulfilling my promise from this thread: https://hcommons.social/@natalie/109557676423033978
I've finally managed to format my references from #Zotero so that they show up in Projects without any problems. Now I can finally create a reading list and easily track and change the status of books from within the Projects view.
Wonderful. Can't wait to continue reading for my dissertation next year and finally track what I want to read or have read each week. But for now, it is a reading break here!
I have a strange issue with @obsidianmd. When I pin a note #obsidian with hang. When I reopen it, loading workspace will hang. I have to delete workspace.json to get it to open again or resync my vault. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

@obsidianmd I just noticed that there’s a new #Obsidian plugin called Remotely Secure. The dev bills it as a fork of and replacement for Remotely Save, which hasn’t been updated in two years.
