Following on from a Philip Larkin conversation last night, I have aquired an anecdote: my FIL also studied at Hull University in the 1960s, so met Larkin while he was librarian there. He said he was, "fucking weird".
I still need to ask my dad for similar profound insights.
Via @tuphlos on twitter:
"My hometown library is looking for a director and the deadline is tomorrow! I posted this earlier, but here it is again. They have a brand new building and if you're looking for a small(ish) town setting, this might be your jam"
Our very own Robin Bradford @tuphlos in conversation with Professional Book Nerds Podcast:
"Emma is joined by librarian, Robin Bradford, to chat about her book, The Reader's Advisory Guide to Romance. They also chat all things Romancelandia, how to talk about spice levels, the cyclical nature of romance trends, libraries, and a bunch of recommendations! "
Ask a Manager is a great place to go to ask about weird things that come up at work, but one of Alison's latest posts aims to help people support their local libraries (which definitely need it right now!)
Come work with me at the University of Manitoba Libraries! We're currently recruiting for the positions of Arts & Humanities Liaison Librarian (Indigenous) and Social Sciences Liaison Librarian (Indigenous). Please see the links below to view the postings:
Happy to tell you I'm the new labor section editor at Journal of Radical Librarianship. If you're writing on labor issues in libraries I'd love to help your article get published.
When reality copies #CliFi in scary ways - like open waters hitting 39C in Lake Tefé in the Amazon, and in coastal waters near Florida, and in the Indian scences in Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry for the Future - what is the impact on #librarians?
The Librarianist, by Patrick deWitt. You are an elderly retired librarian who had two ‘interesting’ things happen in your life (both over 50 years ago) and it’s occurring to you that maybe you’ve been hiding the rest of your life, and there might be time to move on. 3 of 5 library cats 🐈 🐈 🐈.
Any #librarians or other #library folks out there have experience of setting up a book swap shelf in your library? Particularly in an academic library? I've wanted to try this for a while but concern has been raised about "swappable" books being confused with library stock... @librarians
