@Ellirahim@germany@folklore Hard to say, but I classify the "Ridge Trains" as part of the "Wild Hunt" family of phenomena - spirits rushing along certain paths is a well-established trope in these tales.
@juergen_hubert@germany@folklore echoes of Lohengrin and of other protagonists under a geas. Also of many fairies: "You did this one kind thing that breaks my vow, so I will leave forever!"
@juergen_hubert@germany@folklore This reminds me that some old English tales refer to being hanged as "marrying the ropemaker's daughter" and I always thought that was kind of cool and gruesome. Is there something similar in German?
@juergen_hubert@germany@folklore I like all the ones in the Bros Grimm where the "dear Lord Jesus" goes around blasting the shit out of everybody who annoys him.
@juergen_hubert@germany@folklore Still patrolling and protecting the forest as Welthund even after all this time. Basically, keeping people out of the forest in the dark hours of night.
Imagine nowadays the same thing happening if you miss a project's deadline. Haunted by the malevolent ghost of the previous project manager, who left the company in mysterious circumstances.
@juergen_hubert@austria@folklore That's interesting. Sometimes it's hard to find a moral, or grain of wisdom, like this one - seemingly small gestures can mean much more to the other party. ...maybe a lot of these aren't supposed to be conveying wisdom, or that isn't necessarily their purpose.
In Japanese folklore onryo are the vengeful ghosts of people who die while experiencing strong emotions like anger, jealousy, or hatred. Their souls, unable to pass on, turn into powerful spirits seeking vengeance on everyone they encounter. #JapaneseFolklore#folklore#ghost#JapaneseArt#ukiyoe@folklore

Exorcists have a bad habit of dumping malevolent spirits at the nearest convenient hill, swamp, or forest - without considering that other people might want to use those places, too.
@juergen_hubert@germany@folklore This actually makes me think about the practice of "exhaling all your negativity and sending it back to the earth to be recycled." I always think that the earth has enough to deal with, TYVM, and when I do cleaning rituals, I try to use alchemy to transform it within.
