Again, I've forgotten to photograph books for the store, so... a personal shelfie tease. I see a couple of dupes which will go to the shop, eventually.
Most reflect my interests from the '90s & before. Arts & fiction endure. McLuhan seems more relevant all the time. Surprisingly few of these feel dated today.
Enjoy the peek into my humble library & share your #shelfie here!
10/30/23 Open 6-9p. No open containers, please. Masks recommended.
A day book for the devout Wiccan & Herbal knowledge from 2004. Herbal knowledge doesn't go bad, but old herbs may have staled. Get a fresh supply to go with these books.
Anyone up for a science-fiction double-feature? This is some of the music I've been listening to ahead of Saturday night's sci-fi themed Hauntfest On Fifth street-party! Our music isn't for sale, but we've got books, comics, & magazines galore!
This newly added book of cultural history might help shed some light on unfamiliar societal ways. And, it has Witches in the title, so, I've added a few recent critters I've found which might be ingredients for potions. "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble..."
There's more where this came from, here at Bonnett's!
This year, the theme for the 37th annual Hauntfest on Fifth Street is Science Fiction. Are you ready for the alien invasion? Perhaps this magazine will help. We also have dozens of vintage UFO mags from the '70s you can beam-up into your collection!
Discovered in a random #usedBookStore on #VancouverIsland: "Lisette", by Eglanton Thorne and published by The Religious Tract Society, London, some time before 1890 (probably printed 1889)
A simplistic morality tale set in earlier 19th century France. The story is not the point, but rather what it says about the late-19th century English and how they viewed their world and their place in it.
"Weird Parenting Wins" & "Your Child's Destiny–A Numerology Guide for Parents" are intriguing, but aren't the most interesting looking books. So, the background I've added is a composite of the Addams Family's & the Munster's houses. Talk about weird parenting!
Mainly, these books remind me to get my Halloween music out. It's less than two weeks until #HauntfestOnFifth Street. "The Teen Spell Book" & "The Book of Magic" are here now!
Cryptic books from the cobwebbed stacks in the dark secret vault of the hidden cellar in the deepest chamber of the dank tunnels and haunted passages beneath the innocent looking bookshop named BONNETT'S. What more waits for you? Do you dare enter to examine the tomes of a forgotten age?
If you want to give yourself goose-bumps, you may discover the name brand is hard to find. The "Fright Time" series offered 3 stories each for triple the thrills! These and many more frightening fables for young monster hunters are available here now!
You may have noticed that this shop keeps odd hours. It's true. And now, aside from these 3 books, I also have a copy of "Odd Hours." You may find these haunting out shelves now, alongside many of your other favorite oddities and plenty of classic mainstream titles as well!
If you're on holiday, it's a good time to read a book. Today's features are "The Legacy" a novel by John Coyne & "Freaks" by Werner Adrian. "Freaks" is not a book about the old movie with the same name, but about their history in carnival sideshows & exploitation cinema.
It's Caturday, but I'm feeling contrarian & I've had a lot of dog books lately – so, here are 4 featured items: funny, serious, & terrifying (for the spooky season)... & a cute photo of 2 cats (to earn the hashtag). Stop in for other pet books & much, much more!
