As any #CallOfCthulhu veteran knows, old books you've inherited bring nothing but trouble.
You should keep them under lock and key - or perhaps even burn them, just to be safe.

Then again, it might be a dragon!

Quite popular among several countries, there was the belief that, during childbirth, knots had to be untied.

husbands wrapped their wives with special belts, which then were untied, to ease the pain of the labor.
Also, in the , special birth girdles¹ were used.

The Brothers Grimm described a familiar spirit as looking "not quite like a spider, not quite like a scorpion, but it moves incessantly" - a great line that would not look out of place in a H.P. Lovecraft story.

Today is St Catherine’s Day, the patron saint of lacemakers. Today marked the first day that they were allowed to use candles to assist them in their work. The feast day was also a holiday for these workers & was celebrated with games, a hot pot (eggnog made from rum, eggs & beer) & Cattern Cakes, spiced with cinnamon, lightly fruited & flavoured with caraway seeds. The dough was originally yeasted. They’re supposedly round to honour the wheel on which the saint was martyred

The Harvard library research guide for folklore listed the following as core skills for folklorists: deep listening, observant participation, cross-cultural comparison, historical contextualization, collaborative interpretation, cultural documentation, empathetic engagement, and good storytelling. I love this. #whatDoFolkloristsDo #folklore @folklore

So there's this Greek myth that says Zeus was fed by bees when he was born. In gratitude, he blessed them with the color of "shining bronze", and made them immune to cold and harsh winds. These bees lived in Zeus' sacred cave in Crete, and aggressively chased away anyone who tried to steal their honey.

Any #apiarist or #entomology expert out there who could tell me what these bees are by any chance?...

Did you know that today is St Clements Day? He was patron saint of metal workers & blacksmiths. His day was celebrated in industrial areas like South Staffordshire. This celebration took the form of “Clementing - the ancient custom of going about that night to beg drink to make merry with” It was also called bob-apple day from the game which was also played . This is summed up in the traditional chant: "Clemeny, Clemeny, Clemeny mine ! A good red apple and a pint of wine !" @folklore
