I squeaked through "The Vanishing Half" by Brit Bennett with about 2 minutes to spare before it was to expire, by listening at 1.25x speed.

Has anyone noticed that Audible is now offering books with "virtual voice" narration - computer generated? Each sample is the same voice. So now the powers that be are going to ruin audio books with this #AI crap.
Also there is a ton of shyte titles listed, some only 6 minutes long.

Not everyone works the same way, of course. We've discussed before that reading goals are counterproductive for many. Having a goal really helps me, but it doesn't work for everyone. Just like reading for pleasure and reading to write a review are very different processes.

However, #kdrama took up my life and attention for the second half of the year so reading slowed down. I like the idea of finishing a book a week, more or less. #audiobooks make that possible most of the time, except when I get caught up in a lengthy book, something I've been doing recently. Goals are good.

I'm a sucker for time travel books, but not convinced they work well as audiobooks. It's not as easy for me to follow the time jumps - or in the case of Man in the Empty Suit by Sean Ferrell - the various temporal versions of the main character without the pages in front of me.
I do like the concept of this book, which is a murder mystery where all the suspects are the same person.

I’m #currentlyreading Fallout, the third book in the Crank series by Ellen Hopkins. This book is from the perspectives of three of Kristina Snow’s five children, Hunter, Autumn, and Summer. They all have different fathers and live with different guardians.
I’m also reading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. Pippa (Pip) Fitza-Amobi is working on her senior capstone project. Her topic of choice? To research the roles of print, televised, and social media in police investigations using the case of Andie Bell as a case study.
Five years ago, Andie Bell went missing and then was presumed to be dead when her body was not located. Her boyfriend, Sal Singh, is believed to be the murderer but this could not be confirmed because he was found dead in the woods, presumably from suicide. The police and practically the whole town believe he murdered Andie. Pip does not.
Now that Spotify offers audiobooks to premium subscribers, I can listen to audiobooks without having to wait for them to be available on Libby. I remember when Spotify first added audiobooks and you were required to purchase them. I thought it was absurd. I already pay for premium services, and you want me to pay extra to listen to some books? No thanks.
Happy to say that The Battle of Victoria Crater Part I and Part II are now online! The novella takes place in the desolate Martian frontier of Victoriaville, a brave community of settlers faces relentless threats from mercenary bandits working for a powerful Earth corporation, WTO. At the same time, life as a Martian teenager comes with some interesting challenges. This time, the light at the end of the tunnel comes with grim news – not only are the bad guys on their way, so are desperate refugees and a monstrous dust storm. Pete and Martin risk everything to rescue the plucky pioneers from certain doom. Martin learns in the grinding dust and darkness that victory is something you win, one step at a time.
This is one of the better Tidhar novels I've read.
The name dropping is more subtle through most of the novel and his ability to imagine a future middle east that is not mired in the current conflict yet is rooted in the history and mythology of the area is wonderful.

Currently listening to Dust Child #audiobook by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, international bestselling author of The Mountains Sing. This is another #historicalfiction story set in Vietnam/the US about an Amerasian man who’s trying to immigrate to the US with his family in 2016. As the child of an Amerasian mother, this story, though fictional, will help me get better insight into what it might have been like for my mom growing up as an orphan because of being mixed race. @bookstodon#bookstodon@audiobooks

A new dimension in audio I've found is Graphic Audio. I'm just getting into it so I may be wrong, but I think it tends to be Sci-fi and fantasy but the few I've bought a great.
