My wife's friends are all talking about The Alice Network and how good it is. I never made the connection between that book and The Huntress, which I just started after having it on my TBR for the past four years, until I saw the cover of The Huntress up close.
Only about an hour into the 19 hour #audiobook, but liking it so far. This is going to take a while. 🙄
Some of you will know that Audible took down 11 of my audiobooks this summer. If you've ever wanted to pick up a surviving audiobook, it would really help. 💋
If you are an Audible member and you have credits leftover at the end of the month, why not treat yourself to a steamy audiobook?
What to change? - What to change to? - How to change?
Have you ever heard of these questions? Not? Then it is time for another book on your shelf. If you know „The Phoenix Project“, you might like the format of „The goal“ from Eliyahu M. Goldratt.
It’s a super interesting novel about a plant that is in trouble and how it avoids to get closed.
@dschier@bookstodon I read this book when I worked in IT at a manufacturing company. The argument is there are a few machines or processes or people that limit your overall throughput, and you need to concentrate on optimizing those first. Same mindset as TQM but for throughput instead of quality.
Manufacturing is ahead of tech in this sort of thing. In any IT department there is probably one person who is the limiting constraint because everyone comes to them with problems.
I #read as #audiobook A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert. I read the #book a few years ago, but this was my 1st listen. FMC is autistic, but only 1 mention that seems to fly right over the MC’s head. Maybe this is common in the UK, but it’s literally the only thing that bugs me about this otherwise perfect book (that he doesn’t seem to connect that word to her quirkiness). #romance#books#romancelandia#bookstodon@bookstodon@romancebooks https://amzn.to/3sA7P6k
Finished the #audiobook of Never Seduce A Scot by Maya Banks. This is a repeat #read for me. The heroine is deaf and the age is before sign language. Middle Ages Scotland also means violence, a lack of modern healthcare, and forced marriage. Recommend it. #book#books#reading#tomance#romancelandia#bookstodon@bookstodon
I #read the 38 hr #audiobook of Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy. This 6th #book in the Jack Ryan #thriller series is really important to the overall plot arc of Ryan’s life. I am not going to wax on about the highs or lows of it, but if you read any of this series as a standalone, this is the one to invest in. I have an economics degree & think this might be very difficult to parse in places. #books#reading#romancelandia#bookstodon@bookstodon
@Borg@bookstodon oh I love Red October, I just think this one is the most critical to the plot. The Sun of All Fears may be the most important for character development. But Red October is the best written and the best read overall.
@qblueheart@smutstodon@sizestodon@AudioFiction@dark@AdaraAstin Okay, so, this is a kink I've never heard about. People like the idea of being eaten? Interesting, Just goes to show that most anything can be seen as sexy.
In just about an hour, Sam will be taking the stream live to read you some more #WilliamHopeHodgson short stories. We've got another #Carnacki tale, and some nautical #weird#horror to follow. #CatTax included because it's #caturday
smooths lost-cause morning hair, sets third cup of tea for the morning down and moves purring cat off the keyboard.
Helloo! Calling all lovely people who like #sff#books with lashings of mystery and detection. We've just been given some reviewer #audiobook codes for our novel, OverLondon and would love to share them with anyone with a hankering to listen, (hopefully) snort-laugh and leave a review.
OverLondon has pirate detectives. It's got rogue artificers! It's got a big explosive crime. It's got an angry badger! It's got an alternate version of London formed by the Vengeful Queen Anne Boleyn! It's got a world so vivid we regularly run #ttrpg#dnd and pathfinder campaigns based on it. It radiates awesomeness like the power of a supernova that's showing off for its grandparents!
It's narrated by Brendan McDonald who did C.K. McDonnell's amazing Stranger Times audiobooks, which roosted like Smaug on his gold pile at no 1 in the Audible charts for 3 entire days last month. (A near impossible feat!)
It's been likened to what would happen if Spike Milligan and Terry Pratchett ever wrote a book!
If the thought of listening to an amazing voice actor at the height of his game sounds like your cup of tea, just message me or reply, and we'll get you sorted with a code.
@georgepenney@bookstodon Appreciate the delightful image descriptions, really gives it character. Also aww, the ebook's not available until September according to Kobo. I'm more of an ebook person than an audiobook person.
One of the publishers I narrate for, Hedon Press, has run afoul of Amazon / Audible. I just learned that 11 audiobooks I narrated are being taken down. (Yes, it's rotten.) I'm in talks with Audible, more on that as I know more.
The audiobooks are for the moment still for sale through Apple Books. If you want them, get them FAST before they're gone for good.
I cannot in good faith recommend that anyone sign a contract through ACX to be paid in whole or in part in royalties because ACX/Audible is prepared to take down audiobooks without warning to narrators and leave us no recourse to be paid for our work.
I'm horrified that this is the outcome of my case. Please avoid this situation for yourselves.
"Backstage" is about the ultimate romance trope: two actors who pretend to fall in love on stage every night both need to get married quickly to solve eheir respective problems, so why not marry each other? They can pull it of as long as they don't really fall in love...
As someone who came up through theatre myself, I love a good actor romance. This one is really fun!
When @Smutty_Guy interviewed me about audiobooks, I wound up telling him a story about recording "Backstage", which was one of my funniest experiences yet as an audiobook narrator. The interview also includes a little bit more about me than I usually share on social media. 😉
@gwync@eyeshine@wiz0floyd@bookstodon I love the idea of a vampire accountant (auditor would be even better), but hadn’t heard of it until now.
Also, how is there a mastodon instance that is called “coffee” and I’m not there?! 😂
Five stars: Barbacoa, Bomba, and Betrayal by Raquel V. Reyes and Frankie Corzo (narrator) (2023) is the third book in the Caribbean Kitchen mystery series. What starts as a vacation to the Dominican Republic and becomes a work trip in Puerto Rico puts Miriam into the middle of a gentrification money laundering scam that's affecting so many of the small towns across the Caribbean, regardless of country.
