Browsing Communities

Perhaps I’m a little slow, blind, ignorant, or any combination. I like to go to different instances and browse the communities in each to see if I can broaden my interests without having to be specific. The only way I’ve been able to do this is having to go through the browser because I have zero clue how to do it in the app. I can get to the trending, but those are generally empty with no description. Any help or guidance on this would be great.
