This is just not true, 30mph/48Kmh on a pedal bike is for seasoned riders on specialized bikes, not for day to day use.

20mph/32kmh is already fast. In the Netherlands; a country with world class bike infrastructure, normal e-bikes are limited to 16mph/25kmh and this works for everyday use. Above that, the ebikes are speed pedelecs and require a helmet and a license plate. The pedelecs are used by people for their commute etc. usually on protected bike lanes separated from motorized traffic. The normal ebikes are sufficient for all other trips where interaction with motor traffic is more common.

Wanting to get from A to B quicker is risky in traffic, where you are very vulnerable as a cyclist, and we already see a uptick in accidents with bikes, and the amount of trauma riders get.
