Cozy the Screech Owl
Nice story of a good Samaritan helping out a poor little owl from Hoo’s Woods Raptor Center in Wisconsin.
“Cozy”, this tiny Eastern Screech Owl’s story is one of kindness. Earlier this week she was struck a vehicle in the City of Whitewater.
A motorist stopped and moved the owl into a tree believing she was just stunned. However, another young man witnessing the incident expressed his concerns her injuries might be more significant. The little owl had been on his mind all night, so he went back in the morning to find her still sitting in the same place, easy to approach and unable to fly.
Clearly the owl needed our help, without intervention she would not have survived. We are treating “Cozy” for head trauma and an eye injury. This morning she is more alert, standing and cozying up to her “bird buddy”.
Thank you to UW Whitewater student, Nick, for his concern and taking the time to care. And to our friends at Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital for referring the call.
Sometimes it can take a village. For now “Cozy” is safe, warm and cozy in our clinic. We receive no state or federal funding for rehabilitation and ask that you please consider a donation to assist with the medical, feeding and care of birds like Cozy in our care.
Also a reminder the UMN Raptor Center Livestream is tonight at 8 pm Eastern. Meet their 5 new owl ambassadors!
