CarbonatedPastaSauce,

There are no known neutron stars within range to do this to us, much less binary systems that could actually generate a GRB. Don’t lose any sleep over it.

Etterra,

Aww man… I wanted to be vaporized by an indifferent cosmic phenomenon beyond my ken. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to wait until heart disease finishes me off.

SamsonSeinfelder,

You can smoke, drink alcohol or vote republican if you want to die sooner. The more you know.

LEDZeppelin,

Can it happen before the end of this year? Sooner the better

folkrav,

Oh, man, no. It’s just humans. Don’t bring the animals in this.

Pons_Aelius,

I can't agree.

A GRB would make every mass extinction event the planet has endured, including the one it is going through now, look like nothing. The asteroid that took out the dinosaurs is a firecracker to an atomic bomb that is a GRB level of destruction.

It is one of the few events that can completely destroy all life on the planet.

I am sorry that things are not going well for you but a GRB is not the answer.

You seem fun. Wanna come to my birthday?

OneLemmyMan,

damn, thanks for talking me out of it

Annoyed_Crabby,

Don’t try to use this as an excuse to get more discount on Walmart and Amazon, trust me, they won’t budge.

Pons_Aelius,

If you want a very Hard SF description of what a Gamma Ray Burst hitting earth would do you should read Greg Egan's novel Diaspora

aBundleOfFerrets,

The parenthesis in the link break the hyperlink on some clients (Memmy, in my case)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaspora_(novel)

(This full link also doesn’t work on Memmy, despite being properly highlighted. Bug bug bug bug bug…)
