Can anyone who tries it tell me how the Unreal Engine 5 lighting looks?

Aganim,

I’m seeing dynamic shadows thrown by the landscape that I can’t remember were there before. But a bit bugged, as patches of light are visible where cliffs meet the ground/water. Hard to explain, you can see that effect moving when you look around, so definitely not quite as it should be.

I’ve also seen some flickering, as if the engine is sometimes unsure if landscape should throw shadows or not.

Overall I would say: lighting seems to be a bit more realistic, but that could just be a placebo effect.

Not lighting related, but something I feel like should be mentioned: the vistas that have been added look great. Seeing huge mountains towering in the distance really makes the map feel part of a larger whole and makes the world feel more realistic.

Unfortunately my biggest complaint hasn’t been fixed though: still need to toggle the ‘Maintain Y-Axis FOV Aspect Ratio’ setting every time you start the game. And it has become even more annoying: in patch 7 unchecking, checking and applying was enough, but now you actually have to disable the setting, apply, enable and apply again. Guess CSS dislikes 32:9 users. 😅

Well, it is still in beta so hopefully these issues get fixed by release. Thanks!
