#OnThisDay in #history - in 1858, Marie-Claire Heureuse Félicité Bonheur, Empress of Haiti, died at c. 100. Félicité was born to a freed but poor family. She was renowned for her kindness, that reputation born during the siege of Jacmel, when she worked on behalf of the starving people inside. She convinced those conducting the siege to let in supplies and married one of the leaders. She became Empress of Haiti in 1804, and was universally beloved. #OTD#histodons@histodons@royalhistory
