An automod is making posts asking for moderators in subs where the mods have either been purged or left reddit on their own accord. The predictable result is a flood of copypasted applications from bots.
To clarify these are not bots but users expressing their opinion in this fashion. The r/modcoord thread where I saw this has some comments with the background. /r/ModCoord/comments/15rvzb0/mod_team_for_rthingsforants_just_got_removed/

Allow me to mod this community. I have experience in banning the shit out of people, such as u/ModCodeofConduct, and have an itchy trigger finger. I am also in possession of a powerful microscope to help find Spez’s tictac cock. Lastly, I would reinstall the mods, except for the one who passed away and was still kept on in memory and honour of them, you heartless shitlings.
With this, I hope you can understand just how suitable I am for this community, despite only having learned of it at the same time of you removing the dead mod, and accept me as a new mod.
I wonder if there are real users among those who actually are long term subscribers. Because the idea of the users uniformly organizing and doing the same task like ants has a certain appeal.
According to the /r/ModCoord thread, those are humans, kind of - the first one was a friend of the only active former mod that had an AI write that text for the lulz and posted it. The second was someone that copied it, hoping for exactly this result. And then, with two identical posts, the memelords took over.
