Statement from Media Matter CEO Angelo Carusone regarding Elon Musk’s lawsuit threat.

TBH, now I'm wondering if they'd want a SLAPP dismissal. Media Matters don't have the deepest pockets, but theirs do run pretty deep -- and the classic defense of 'we're telling the truth, and we will demonstrate how' could certainly invite reprisals against MuskE.

It'll be interesting to see where (if at all) he chooses to file such a case. There are a few venues Musk could choose that don't have strong anti-SLAPP laws.

But there's basically zero jurisdictions that he would stand a snowballs' chance in hell at actually winning on the merits. This is clearly 1A rights to accurately report facts that they observed happening on Twitter, as even confirmed by Elmo.

X Corp is headquartered in San Fran, and Media Matters in Washington DC -- I wonder what other venues would be available for selection there. Neither of them are good for Musk, and nowhere is going to give his 'they're mean to me!' lawsuit anything but the gimlet eye.

Looks like X Corp is registered in Nevada, but they have good anti-SLAPP laws, too.
