Because of the spam, I’ve been looking more closely at new signups. It’s odd to see people create an account, login, then delete their account less that 30 minutes later. I guess we aren’t for them.

@jerry when someone creates and deletes an account, is the username gone forever on that instance or does it become available again? Not sure if all server types do it the same way. It'd be a shame if desirable handles get wasted by people who don't plan to use them!
@jerry I stuck our signup pages behind Cloudflare managed challenge (I know, I know) and 46.37% get through, and when I investigate a lot of the IP's failing they are pretty clearly bots or malicious. As much as I hate to say it, put the signups behind a protective layer and much like a firewall it'll at least reduce the noise level enough such that you can start to deal with it.
Also from a LOT of countries if I enable managed challenge we see success rates of 0% to 2%. It's all bots, all the time.
