currently running a quick cleanup through the database to free some space in the hope to speed up a potential migration to a more powerful server (in case i decide to do so) – you may experience some slowdowns depending on the table that is currently being worked on (and the base load from the fediverse is already quite high). sorry for that #tchncs :tchncs:
could be due to the stressful two weeks and the barely existing weekend but i couldnt lack motivation for setting up and migrating to yet another new machine more right now... i think i wait and try to tweak a few things and hope that the thing doesnt burn to the ground
still cannot decide if its a rationally sense making move to throw a bit more hardware at this instance to make it more bad-ceo-move-proven ... it is not about the money (althrough donations started to slightly drop until the lemmy hype) ... its more like ... if its money well spent ... or something like that
i have decided to take on that experiment. not happy about it as i have just rented a big machine to future-proof lemmy and calckey... will take the opportunity to restructure the setup using lxd
@milan with that much ram i would recommend to try zram. Depending on the workload, it can be very much worth it. The 3 main servers at work have 256GB of RAM, and have 4x 20GB zram swap active. There is 22,5GB worth of swap in them, which only occupies 11GB. vm.swappiness is set to 30. This lead to lower iowait while having memory pressure and glusterfs doing its thing.
@milan I'll be shipping another server to the datacenter this week as well.... alas not that recent CPU, but some refurbished hardware... but with 256 GB RAM...
Main reason for that is that the very old server has too few NICs (2x 1 GbE) whereas the other two servers have 4x 10 GbE and I need more scalability for my CephFS (and more bandwidth)
