Setting up settlements on the westbank would be something you could consider genocide. Yet, especially Isreal probably knows a thing or two about genocide, considering both their ancient and recent history.
Their rough history and neighborhood does in no way justify the things they are doing but it very well explains them. No idea what Palestine was thinking though. Things are going to be ugly for them, like Sodom and Gomorrah getting doused in flames levels of ugly…
I think it’s very important to make that distinction.
Hamas wasn’t thinking. Their shitty extremist ideology makes them believe that blowing themselves up will secure a place in heaven with Allah. They are delusional fanatics.
Yeah but then you’d be looking at the Israeli government - more specifically the government of Netanjahu - not Israel. The people are pretty divided about the settlement stuff and the IDF had a hard time getting new people into their ranks recently.
You could also argue that most Palestinians support Hamas, and most support armed conflict against Israel: “53% of Palestinians believe Hamas is ‘most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinian people,’”
You understand the fact that Hamas also suppresses and silences any opposition in Gaza, right? It’s like saying most average Russians support the war because the statistics say so.
Providing such statistics as you have without this context is lying.
Not to mention, Hamas has not been voted in since 2014. In the votes that were supposed to happen, Hamas looked to lose, so they decided not to hold the vote at all.
I’ll make it even easier. Here is the full text of the definition:
Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.
I think we can still point out israeli war crimes without being called antisemitic under that definition.
Being critical of the Israeli State and IDF is actually a very mainstream, well-accepted opinions in my experience. For instance Netanyahu’s fascistic bullshit is widely criticized, even within Israel.
However, Hamas apology or antisemitic remarks are not acceptable; so whenever someone says “we can’t even criticize Israel!! Freedom of speech!!1!!”, I strongly suspect that they’ve done either of these things and got a righteous clapback.
