We’re supposed to see race. Not seeing race is ignoring the systematic problems that exist in our society that prevent minorities from enjoying the same privilege as whites. Not seeing race is just like saying “All Lives Matter” and missing the point of why the BLM movement is so important.

Trying to say that “seeing race” makes someone a bigot is misguided. It’s generalizing based on race makes someone a bigot.

The same goes for sexuality and gender identity.

The problem that I have noticed is that “seeing” these things requires sympathy and understanding. These can be tough and very tiring for a lot of people. But what those people need to remember is that it is a constant struggle for minorities and that we who do have privilege must be there to fight when they can’t.
