Is there much movement on getting linux working on Apple’s new chip? Is there expectation that it will eventually work?

I started with Linux over a year ago with mint and Now I use KDE neon. I’m not a power user by any means.
(Linux Mint) Switched to an AMD graphics card recently and ran “sudo apt remove --purge” on all ^nvidia* and ^libnvidia* packages. Unfortunately, one package (libnvidia-compute-470) seems to not get the message and won’t remove itself. Quick search around the internet on solutions have not resolved the issue yet. Wondering...
For while apt upgrades have greeted me with “Get more security updates through Ubuntu Pro with ‘esm-apps’ enabled” and then a list of packages that apparently have updates I’m not going to receive through the regular channel....
The Budgie project plans on soft forking mutter in the short term to implement Wayland support in Budgie 10, but will look into developing their own wlroots based compositor called Magpie as a long term solution.
