What a hell is going on? I expect to see everything inside backticks exactly as I typed, but something happens to ‘’>" and “...

Because of the time it takes for mods to moderate content on Lemmy, the"new" sort’s been prone to abuse....
I am experiencing weird behavior on both lemmy.ml and lemmy.ca where refreshing, or closing and reopening my browser, will cause me to be logged out. This seems to be an issue with my browser, Firefox 102.13 on Debian Bookworm, but it does not happen with any other sites with logins. I have tried clearing cookies and site data...
I recently encountered a situation where I tried to downvote a post from an instance that didn’t seem to have downvotes enabled. However, my vote didn’t affect the score, which made me question why the downvote button was even displayed in the first place. It felt like it was just baiting me into thinking I could downvote....
I used to use the instances view in Liftoff for this, since that client has a really handy “View this on another instance” feature for both communities and posts, but lately that view as well as Liftoff in general has had some pretty serious stability issues for me, so here’s the question:...
I’d like to host lemmy on my LAN and I’d be the only user, no registration open. I would subscribe to communities on other instances and my instance would get the posts and comments. would that work? I don’t need it to be accessible from the internet.
Title, basically....
My block list is quickly filling up with communities that I don’t have anything against, I just don’t speak the language. Does such a setting already exist? If not, are there any plans to add one?
A few weeks ago Lemmy was buggy on computers and there were no good mobile clients out there, now on PC the site is pretty stable and fast, and there are now some pretty good iOS/Android clients too. Thanks to all the people who made this possible!
There is a big difference between mild NSFW and full on porno. Suppose there is a News story with photo/video but it’s a little bit graphic or violent. Nobody is jacking off to that. Maybe shouldn’t view it at work, but in the library is fine....

Where did the API documentation in the documentation go? There used to be this great listing of all of the API calls but it seems to be gone now?
For example, I’m interested in programming.dev. I want to see what communities they have and how their local posts look like. Therefore, I thought it would be a nice idea for there to be a button which you can press to just see posts from that instance. This would be the same as simply navigating to that instance’s homepage,...
was looking forward to the scaled sort but I’m not happy with the implementation, it looks too much like the new sort. In fact I’ve seen the exact same posts when sorting by new and scaled. I wish scaled sort was a more balanced version of top that gives more weight to small communities but not so much as to only show small...
I’m using my own instance. Is there a way to block the posts coming from other instances that are below a certain threshold? For example -3 upvotes. I don’t need to see them I trust the moderators of other instances to handle their own posts responsibly. As it is today half my Homescreen is full of -40 voted posts that might...

I can see downvotes on comments, but on posts there’s only a total score. Can you please make the UI consistent by either giving posts both up and down votes visibility, which would be my preferred course of action, or make comments have only a total value shown like posts? It’s a pet peeve of mine, I mainly just want to see...
Right now, unless someone is linked to an instance directly, the first point of entry is usually join-lemmy.org, and let’s face it, it’s completely uninviting....
It seems like the whole feature is running wrong and should probably be hidden until it can be reexamined. Because every Lemmy server seems to have “trending communities” that are just empty new communities or are just single-user bot feeds. And those are fine uses of lemmy! But they’re not “trending”.
I know not all instances require it. I know not all instances take too long....
I’m getting tired of every time I load a post that it defaults to sorting comments by Hot, and I prefer sorting by Top, so I have to load each post I read twice. There’s only a setting to default sort posts this way, not comments in posts.
In the past, we would type something like site:reddit.com into a search engine to get to the resource we needed. In the meantime, I have already found a few useful tips on Lemmy instances by using the Lemmy search. But since all Lemmy instances are named differently, a simple site:lemmy won’t work well in a search engine....
Rule #2 is possibly our most important one:...
I just realized that lemmy doesn’t have karma like reddit. I’ve never paid much attention to karma. But even so it does seem to play an important role in moderation on reddit....
