Does anyone else move their houseplants outdoors in the spring?

I live in the north of England, I’d be a plant murderer if I did this!

Sahqon,

Some of them. It makes them thrive more in the summer, but some will get absolutely miserable when I put them out (need shade, will still burn, etc), then by the time they get used to the conditions and start growing like crazy, it’s winter again and they’ll drop leaves when I put them back inside. If I keep them inside, they just exist slowly, but this has killed some… Might be we have too low humidity here.

starlainjury,

I would give my indoor plants outdoor time, until my Birkin came back with a weird earwig looking bug hanging out in the soil 😂 I know it’s silly but he stays outside now.

Diatomaceous earth sprinkled on the soil before bringing them in takes care of most issues for me.

starlainjury,

Oooh that’s brilliant! Thank you!

giraffebiscuit,

Yes! Towards the end of winter my plants are looking rough and I keep telling them, “X more months guys!” because my house doesn’t have a good amount of sunshine.

I like getting the plants outside so that we can do a nice cleaning of the plant areas.

It’s funny you phrase it that way. I have a number of plants that I “bring in” for winter. It’s the same thing, just I view them less as “house plants” and more as “not winter hardy”.

I’ve got a few cacti, a jade plant, peace lily, and and orchid that all come inside for the winter time.

I used to have a lot more, but I pared them down. They took up a lot of space inside and it was just a lot of hassle to deal with.
