On Nov. 27, 1978, the late Dianne Feinstein, then the 45-year-old president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and two-time failed mayoral candidate called a press conference to announce her retirement.
That afternoon, a supervisor shot Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey White.
Feinstein handled the moment with poise, and went on to serve 9 years as mayor and 3 decades in the U.S. Senate.
@TheConversationUS Thanks for the post. Surprised to see the article state that she was "never connected to a singular important issue;" her crusade against the CIA over torture of prisoners is legend, and "never authored landmark legislation" is false. She authored the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. Just bc they let it expire doesn't mean you should leave it out. I guess what I'm getting at is there's a cleaner way to say, "Great career but should have retired like ten years ago." cc @histodons
@TheConversationUS@histodons Another out-of-touch power hungry boomer who kept “working” long after her brain turned to mush.
Even Walmart wouldn’t hire somehow like her to be a greeter. How do we let these people run our country? There’s nothing wrong with getting old, but there’s a point for a lot of people where their mental capacity is gone.
@TheConversationUS.
My deepest condolences to Sen. Feinstein's family, friends, and constituents. That said, she has done in death what she should have done in life.
@Jeremiah@TheConversationUS@histodons@TexasObserver yeah I can't believe they're going to try to white wash feinstein's legacy with the weakest connection to the assassination of Harvey Milk.
feinstein was conservative, corporate bought dem. one who was outraged not by homeland security unconstitutionally invading the privacy of Americans, but outraged that they were invading the privacy of senators like herself.
she fucking hugged Lindsay Graham at the conclusion of Brett kavanaugh's Senate confirmation to the supreme Court.
her dying days were spent being wheeled onto the Senate floor, incoherently voting as pelosi's daughter told her to.
rest in hell, old woman. the plastic governor won't let us have Barbara Lee, but at least we no longer have you.
