#OnThisDay in #history - in 1862, Ida B. Wells was born into #slavery in Mississippi. Later, she enrolled in Shaw College (now Rust College), where her father was a trustee. She moved to Tennessee where she taught, attended uni, & fought segregationist policies. After a friend was lynched, she began to investigate lynchings and publishing her findings in pamphlets such as Southern Horrors and The Red Record.
