#OnThisDay in #history - in 1612, the trial of the Samlesbury Witches began in Lancashire #England . It was a 2 day affair, where 3 women, Jane Southworth, Jennet Bierley, & Ellen Bierley were accused by a teen named Grace Sowerbutts. They were accused of taking the form of animals (a black dog); sucking the innards out of an infant & exhumed its body before boiling it in stew and using its rendered fat to anoint themselves. They were acquitted when Grace recanted. #OTD#histodons@histodons
@court@histodons I’ve turned this and two other trials published in pamphlets into an online #RPG in my Ren-Baroque Humanities classes. It’s always stunning to me how quickly and easily Ss turn on each other too
